Northern BC housing sales see 7.5% spike in the past year

Home sales in northern BC started strong in January 2025, with 173 unit sales, a 7.5% increase from last year. Listings decreased slightly, and the average price rose 3.4% to nearly $400,000. Concerns about Trump tariffs on imported goods, particularly steel and aluminum, could impact the region, especially given the significance of the Rio Tinto smelter in Kitimat. The average residential price in BC fell 1% to $949,560, while active listings increased by 27% to 30,896 units.
